Don Shelby
Don
Shelby, main anchor at WCCO-TV, has long served as a leader
both in and out of the newsroom.
Don
joined WCCO-TV in 1978, when he was hired to anchor the station’s
weekend newscasts and to produce investigative reports. Among
his notable achievements: The nationally acclaimed I-Team,
an investigative reporting unit dedicated to producing in-depth,
longer form stories. Under his leadership, the I-Team, and
Don, won all five of the nation’s top journalism awards, including
three national Emmys, the Columbia-duPont Citation, the Scripps-Howard
Award for Excellence, the George Foster Peabody Award, and
the Society of Professional Journalists Distinguished Service
Award.
Don
was honored with a second George Foster Peabody award for
his ongoing commitment to the youth of Minnesota by promoting
the concept of mentoring.
In
addition to his anchoring duties, he continues to report in
the field and earn the nation’s top honors. He was named 1997
Minnesota Broadcaster of the Year by the Minnesota Broadcast
News Association.
